Microsoft calls you to say your system is infected? I don’t think so…

What do you do when you get a call from Microsoft, McAfee, Windows, or anyone else claiming to be associated with a computer or software developer saying they can ‘see’ your computer or that they know you are running spyware/have a virus etc? DO NOT give them any information or CONFIRM anything. Tell them you do not have a computer, tablet, laptop, etc and hang up. I know this response seems far-fetched in this day and age but trust me, there are still people who don’t own these devices and have no internet. I have found this is the only response they cannot argue with and will remove you from their call list. Some of you reading this may be thinking, ‘duh’. We are still seeing people falling for this and being taken for lots of money and/or being harassed. We have seen these horror stories first hand. These hackers are praying on the elderly, sick, shut-in, and just uninformed. Even if this information is not useful to you, please pass it along to friends or family who might be susceptible to these scare tactics. It is happening way too often!
